A 27-year-old BSF woman constable, Rajalakshmi, died after suffering a gunshot wound at a forward border outpost in Jammu and Kashmir’s RS Pura sector. The incident took place at Sushil Post, near the International Border, while she was on duty. According to officials, Rajalakshmi was serving with the BSF’s 7th Battalion and was posted at the border outpost. Her colleagues rushed to the spot after hearing a gunshot and found her seriously injured. She was immediately taken to Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu, where doctors declared her dead. A PTI report, quoting an official, said the bullet was fired from Rajalakshmi’s service rifle. However, it is not yet clear how or why the weapon went off. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Media reports said Rajalakshmi was a native of Tamil Nadu. The BSF has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
