Nana Patekar died on Thursday morning at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Goa. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors performed CPR for around 45 minutes but could not save him. Nana leaves behind not just a rich body of work but also stories that reveal the struggles and experiences that shaped him. In a December 2024 interview with Dainik Bhaskar, he opened up about his relationship with his father. Growing up, Nana often compared himself with his two brothers and felt he was not as good-looking as them. This insecurity made him believe that his father loved his brothers more than him. As a child, Nana took part in plays held in his village and the surrounding areas. On one occasion, he acted in a play about Valmiki. What made it special was that his father travelled from Mumbai to the village to watch his performance. The moment was extremely special for Nana. He felt that his father was also proud of his talent. This experience went a long way towards dispelling the misunderstanding he had about his father. He became close friends with Nana in his final days Nana had said that their relationship grew very close during their father’s final days. Their father would sometimes hold Nana’s hand and say that he had always felt Nana might have believed that he had received more love than his brothers.
